Teen Room Refresh
/Nate’s room had not been updated since he was five years old! Eight years flew and it is time for an upgrade. The goal was create a space that he will love now and in his high school years. High school??!! Excuse me while I go cry in the corner…
The first thing we thought about was a bed and mattress. He used to have a bunk bed and the mattress was really uncomfortable. Mattress choice was really important to me because this room upgrade has to last. Ruby already has an Avocado Mattress and it the most comfortable bed in the house, so that was a no-brainer for us. Besides being insanely comfortable, Avocado Mattresses are non-toxic, organic and eco friendly. A win all around. (See Ruby’s room refresh here) .
Nate wanted to go with a loft bed, but I know that won’t suit him in later years, so instead, we went with this bed from West Elm. It is handsome, modern and I think it will age well. Thankfully, Nate is a pretty easy going guy, so it wasn’t a hard sell.
Repainting the room or wallpapering was not in the budget, so instead, I went with these decals from @thelovelywallco. This is the third time I have purchased decals from this small shop and they never disappoint. Wall decals are such a great way to pack a large punch with a small price tag. A desk and comfortable chair was a must. Remote school is still the only option right now, so Nate is spending lot of time at his desk. We went with this desk and this chair.
At thirteen, Nate is still very into Lego. He sorts and stores Lego in GLIS containers from IKEA. He started doing it when he was ten and it’s a system that works for him. I probably wouldn’t recommend it for little ones because it might be hard to keep up with. He came up with it on his own. He sorts by size and color. TBH, the whole thing kinda stresses me out and I am glad he keeps them pretty neat.
We kept his Beddy’s Bedding that he already had on his old bed. I initially was going to change it, but this system works so well and it is really cozy. Beddys are a one piece bottom sheet and comforter. They easily zip up (like a sleeping bag) and the bed is made. We have had our sets for quite a few years and they are high quality that last and last. The only thing you should know upfront is that it takes 2 dryer cycles to dry. Kind of a pain, but totally worth the quality and the fact that he actually makes his bed everyday. I highly recommend Beddys. (I have no affiliation with Beddy’s)
Everything else in his room is linked up below! Let me know in the comments if I missed anything and I will add it!
