What you need:

  • water

  • food coloring or liquid water colors

  • jars and brushes

How to make it:

The ratio of cornstarch to water is 1:1.

Mix a few drops of color into your water and stir in your cornstarch. You’ll need to keep stirring to combine- the cornstarch sometimes settles to the bottom. Adjust your color to your preference. It dries more vibrant that in looks when wet.

Add paint brushes and head outside to the sidewalk!

Concerns:

Yes, it washes off easily with a heavy rain or a spray of the garden hose.

Depending on what coloring you choose, it might stain clothing or skin. We used washable liquid water color, so there were no worries about that.

How to extend:

Pour this chalk paint into spray bottles and make spray paint!

Put it in old ketchup squirt bottles. And let the kids squirt the paint!

Paint scooter wheels and zoom around to see the lines they create.
