Resources for Learning at Home
/Let me begin by sharing my gratitude for the teachers who are learning new systems at an impossible pace, working harder than ever before, and putting their jobs before themselves and their own families.
I believe that this online learning is being offered in good faith. These times are unprecedented, and districts are doing their best to mobilize and support their families. I am grateful and respectful of the work they’ve put in.
I know how painful this is for our teachers.
They miss their students and worry for their health and safety. There is no way to compare the teacher-student bond and how it impacts learning. Thank you to the teachers all over the world. You are heroes.
With that said, young children do not learn through screens. They learn through play, touch, and human connection.
I am devastated by the amount of undue stress that we are putting upon ourselves to school our children right now. I am not doing it for my little one. She is seven and in first grade.
I am her mom and I know what it best for her and for my family. STRESS is not it.
Play, reading, talking, cooking, and creating are.
Online distance learning might be an ideal solution for some families. I am so glad for them.
I come from a place of learning and not judgement.
Emotional health and wellness is my utmost priority for my children, my husband and myself. I will not allow anything to jeopardize that. It may come with a consequence at the end, or it may not. I am okay with that.
I am making an informed decision for my own family.
I encourage you to make the best decision for your family.
We are supplementing her at-home learning with journal writing and some workbooks.
I am not a homeschooler ( I think they are amazing!). This is not homeschool.
This is CRISIS SCHOOLING.
I am not an expert in this. In fact, no one is. None of us have ever crisis schooled our children during a global pandemic. We are all learning and figuring this out.
You are enough for your child. Please know that.
Many of you continue to reach out and ask what workbooks Sloane is using. I am happy to share them here on my website.
