Easy and Affordable Valentine's Day Fun for Kids: No-Cook Play Dough and Loose Parts Play
Can you believe it’s almost Valentine's Day? I know, a Hallmark Holiday and all....but, it's my favorite!
There are so many easy ways to enjoy the holiday with your kids and this simple activity is one of them!
Are you still reeling from the Winter Holiday bills like we are?
Rest assured, Valentine's Day doesn't need to cost you an arm and a leg. I plan to share a few valentine Ideas here on my blog over the next few weeks, so stay tuned by subscribing HERE.
This morning, I whipped up two quick, no-cook batches of valentine dough and threw together some loose parts for an easy invitation to play.
Typically, I favor cooked playdough, but this time I opted to make no-cook, quick play dough. Recipe linked at the bottom of the post.
For our set up, I used an old tinker tray and filled it with various Valentine loose parts. I will link a bunch below, but I encourage you to get yours from the dollar bin at Target or from your local Dollar Store. They are very inexpensive and can stored away and used for years. Like I said earlier, you do not need to spend a substantial amount of money for this activity. Also? if you don't feel like making the effort to make the play dough yourself, give yourself a pass and just grab that at the Dollar Store too. The kids will be just as engaged and happy. Win. Win.
No- Cook Valentine Play Dough Recipe
Ingredients:
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
2 TBSP Cream of Tartar
2 TBSP Oil
A few drops of liquid watercolor (or food coloring)
2 Cups boiling water
Directions: Combine dry ingredients and mix well. Add oil. Making sure the water is boiling rapidly, add your coloring and scent to the water. Pour water into dry ingredient mixture and knead very well. Dough will be too sticky at first, but it will become smooth and pliable as it cools.
*Adult supervision required as the water will be way too hot for children*
Materials we used:
Liquid Watercolor / Valentines Pom Poms / Heart Food Picks / Wooden Tray / Cupcake Fragrance / Heart Gems / Valentines Pony Beads / Animal Shaped Beads / Foam Glitter Assorted Hearts
Not in the mood to make it all yourself? I see you. I found this cute little kit on Etsy which will definitely do the trick.
